Italy Women 0 – 1 Belgium Women

Tine De Caigny scored for Belgium as they beat Italy 1-0 to take their place in the quarter-finals following Iceland’s draw with Group D winners France.

A nervy, evenly-contested first half saw the sides go into the break goalless before the game burst into life in the second half, with Tine De Caigny’s goal proving decisive.

Tessa Wullaert drifted a free-kick into the penalty area, and with Italy unable to clear their lines, the ball fell to De Caigny, who shot left-footed across the goalkeeper and into the corner of the net.

Belgium survived a late Italy onslaught to take all three points, with Iceland’s draw with France ensuring the Belgians secured the runners-up spot in Group D to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Belgium will face Sweden at Leigh Sports Village in the third quarter-final on Friday.
