Darren Clarke held off a late charge from former Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington to claim a one-shot victory after a weather-delayed final round at the Senior Open.

Clarke birdied the par-five last to post a one-under 69 on the King’s Course at Gleneagles and edge ahead of Harrington, who had birdied four of his last five holes to close a final-round 67 and set the clubhouse target at nine under.

Victory means Clarke becomes only the fourth player in history to win The Open and the Senior Open, following on from Gary Player, Bob Charles and Tom Watson.
