[ad_1]

Forbidden love must conquer secrets, lies, and prejudice in Tyler Perry‘s forthcoming period drama, “A Jazzman’s Blues.” Written, directed, and produced by the Academy Award honoree, the film, powered by Netflix, follows the story of star-crossed lovers Bayou (Joshua Boone) and Leanne (Solea Pfeiffer), a young Black couple forced to navigate the world and the Deep South in the 1940s as decades of deception are slowly unraveled, per the movie’s trailer released on Aug. 23.

Perry’s “A Jazzman’s Blues” has been over 25 years in the making. The filmmaker wrote the movie in 1995, “the first screenplay I ever wrote,” Perry previously told People. In another interview with the outlet, he said, “It’s something very, very different for me. And, so far the reception of it has been incredible.” Perry also said that the inspiration for “A Jazzman’s Blues” stemmed from his adoration of legendary playwright August Wilson; he wrote it after sneaking into one of Wilson’s plays and having a chance encounter with him. “I was telling him that I had all these stories that I wanted to tell, and he was very, very encouraging about me writing what I wanted to write,” Perry shared of Wilson. “I went home that night and started writing ‘A Jazzman’s Blues.'”

“A Jazzman’s Blues” stars several up-and-coming actors, including its two main leads. The movie will make its world premiere on Sept. 11 at the Toronto International Film Festival, just ahead of its streaming debut. Read ahead for everything else we know about the film.
